Vigyasa 2024: Celebrating Science and Skills with a Purpose
Shri T. P. Bhatia College of Science recently hosted its 15th annual science festival, “Vigyasa – Gyan Ki Jigyasa,” on the 13th and 14th of December 2024. This two-day event has firmly established itself as a beacon for nurturing scientific curiosity and innovation among students in Mumbai and beyond. With a packed schedule featuring inspiring talks, interactive activities, and thrilling competitions, Vigyasa 2024 proved to be an extraordinary platform for young minds.
Day 1: Inspiration and Technology
The festival kicked off with a motivational talk by Sahitya Academy awardee Manish Prakash Shah. He delivered an engaging session reflecting on the legacy of stalwarts like Padmashree and Padma Bhushan Late Shri Ratan Tata. The session resonated deeply with the audience, setting the tone for the festival. The day also included a grand prize distribution ceremony and a unique display by Tata showcasing heritage artifacts.
Adding a modern edge, the “Skill on Wheels” initiative brought a mobile IT laboratory to the event, demonstrating IT skill development courses. This feature allowed students to explore practical, technology-driven learning.
Day 2: DIY Science and Vigyasa Quiz
The second day was packed with hands-on science activities. Around 350 students from 46 schools, hailing from Mumbai, Prayagraj, Jamshedpur, and Chennai, participated in DIY experiments conducted in state-of-the-art college science labs. These activities offered an engaging and educational experience for both students and their accompanying teachers.
The festival also featured insightful sessions by prominent speakers. Chief guest Shri Bharat Mehta, ISRO’s Deputy Director for Satellite Projects, highlighted India’s advancements in space exploration and upcoming Mars missions. His presentation on topics like “Make in India,” “Skill India,” and STEM education underscored the importance of innovation and collaboration in propelling India forward.
Vigyasa Quiz: A Battle of Wits
The much-anticipated Vigyasa quiz competition was the highlight of the event. Conducted by renowned quizmaster Cruz D’Souza, the preliminary round saw 46 schools tackling 25 challenging questions. Six teams emerged victorious, qualifying for the final round:
- Children’s Academy (Kandivli East and Ashok Nagar)
- DAV School (Gopalapuram, Chennai)
- Chatrubhuj Narsee School (Kandivli East)
- Makhecha High School (Kandivli West)
- Bandra Technical School (Bandra East)
In a nail-biting finale, Children’s Academy (Malad East) clinched first place, with their Kandivli East team taking second place. DAV School, Chennai, secured the third position, making the competition a truly national affair.
A Celebration of Science and Learning
President Mahesh Shah warmly welcomed teams from across India, appreciating their enthusiastic participation. The entire college was adorned with colorful posters and Rangoli designs, creating a festive atmosphere.
The festival concluded on a high note, with the 15th National Science Quiz recognized for fostering a sense of camaraderie among participants. Vigyasa 2024 was not just an event but a celebration of curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. As students and teachers departed, they carried with them memories of an enriching experience, eager for what the future editions of Vigyasa would bring.
